Assembly Bill 470 Is Defeated

On behalf of Frank Arce, Vice President

Dear CWA District 9 Members,

I am excited to share some fantastic news regarding our recent efforts in the legislative arena. Thanks to your tireless advocacy and unwavering commitment, we have achieved a significant political victory: Assembly Bill 470 has been defeated!

As many of you know, the passage of AB 470 would have posed a severe threat to our industry. If enacted, AT&T and Frontier would have been able to eliminate their mandate to maintain the communications infrastructure that we all have worked so hard to build. This could have led to significant job losses and undermined the very foundation that supports our communities—resulting in service deficits and, ultimately, a decline in the quality of communication services.

I am proud to say that, together, we stood up against this challenge. Our voices were heard loud and clear, and your involvement made all the difference. Whether you participated in phone banks, reached out to your representatives, or rallied in support of our cause, every action contributed to this outcome.

I would like to extend a special shout-out to our Campaign Lead, Yvonne Melton, our lobbyist, Ignacio Hernandez, Council Chairs T. Santora and Keith Gibbs, and our DOC, Shawn Heape for their exceptional leadership in this fight. Their dedication and strategic planning were instrumental in navigating the challenges we faced, and their commitment to our cause has been nothing short of inspiring. Thank you all for your hard work and unwavering support!

This victory is a testament to the power of solidarity and collective action. It demonstrates that when we unite and raise our voices, we can make a meaningful impact on the legislation that affects our lives and livelihoods.

As we celebrate this achievement, let us also remain vigilant. There will undoubtedly be more challenges ahead, but if we continue to work together, we can overcome them. Your continued engagement and support will be crucial as we advocate for policies that protect our rights and advance our interests as workers.

Thank you for your dedication and hard work. This victory is ours, and it sets the stage for future successes. Let’s keep the momentum going!

In Solidarity,

Frank Arce
