What CWA District 9 Supports:
CWA D9 is backing initiatives focused on housing affordability, public education funding, and democratic fairness:
- Funding Schools & Healthcare (Prop 3): Makes permanent existing tax rates on high earners to provide multi-billion-dollar long-term support for K-12 schools, community colleges, and public health.
- Housing Access (Props 1 & 37): Supports affordable housing bonds for veterans (Prop 1) and creates fixed-rate mortgage assistance programs for middle-class home buyers (Prop 37).
- Elections & Governance Reform (Props 2, 4, & 5): Backs public campaign financing, recall election rules, and fiscal reserve protections.
What CWA District 9 Opposes:
The union opposes several initiatives that create restrictive voting barriers, administrative burdens, or potentially harmful fiscal constraints:
- Voting Restrictions (Prop 39): Opposes stricter voter ID and administrative burdens that risk suppressing voter participation.
- Environmental Review Fast-Tracking (Prop 45): Opposes attempts to weaken public input under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).
- Complex Tax & Regulatory Changes (Props 38, 40, 41, 42, 43, & 44): Rejects various bond initiatives, restrictive tax rules, and mandated overhead caps on safety-net health clinics.
