Our own Secretary-Treasurer, Regina, was at the District 9 International Women’s March today and had this to say:
“Today I marched for every woman who’s been talked over, underpaid, or overlooked.
I am proud to represent CWA at the Women’s March. We’re fighting for equality, fair pay, and healthcare that protects working women everywhere.
The community showed up with honks, waves, and support all along the route. Solidarity is powerful.
We Can! We Have! We Will!
The fight continues!
“

Today, we honor the grit, determination and perseverance of our union sisters on International Women’s Day. We recognize how far we have come as the labor movement has fought against discrimination on the basis of gender, pregnancy, marital status, disability or sexual orientation.
But we also recognize how much more needs to be done to achieve an equal playing field. The pay gap still persists, even though union women have used the power of their union contracts to narrow that gap in comparison to their non-union workers.
Today, women are seeing new attacks on their fundamental voting rights from House Republicans who would use the SAVE Act to disenfranchise 69 million women unless they take additional steps to prove their citizenship. We recognize the threat of this proposed law on members of the LGBTQ+ community, including individuals who are trans, whose basic rights to identification cards and drivers licenses are under attack.
I take courage in the leadership of CWA women as we stand together for women’s rights, equality and justice. From the shop floor, to our local union halls, to our headquarters and representation on the international stage, CWA women are leading and getting the job done. We appreciate the leadership of the women leaders on the CWA Executive Board and congratulate our CWA sisters Chief of Staff Sylvia J. Ramos and Public, Healthcare and Education Workers Vice President Margaret Cook who were elected last year to run the Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW) as National President and National Vice President.
As we honor our progress today, we also commit to keep fighting for the advancement of women’s rights and equality.
In Unity,
